Detail
There are few things more beautiful in an early-season garden than a lawn or border that is slowly turning blue. Scilla siberica does just that. The tiny azure-violet-blue flowers — each with a fine dark central vein — appear in dense clusters in March and April, often before anything else in the garden is in bloom. They are small, but together they are stunning.
A true naturaliser
Scilla siberica thrives naturally on the nutrient-rich soil of old country estates and manors, where it has been able to naturalise undisturbed for generations. In such an environment, it forms dense carpets of blue that return and grow every spring. In your garden, it works exactly the same way: plant them once, and they’ll take care of the rest themselves. Under trees, in the grass, along a hedge — wherever the soil is nutrient-rich and slightly moist, Scilla Siberica feels at home.
Small in size, big impact for bees
Scilla flowers early, just as bees and bumblebees are becoming active and in urgent need of nectar. A border full of Scilla Siberica is therefore not only a feast for the eyes, but also a welcome first meal for the early pollinators in your neighbourhood.
Combine and let them grow wild
Scilla Siberica combines beautifully with other early-flowering wildflowers such as Chionodoxa, white Muscari or snowdrops. Plant them together for a playful and natural effect. In the grass, the easiest way to plant them is with a bulb planter or simply a screwdriver — make a hole, drop the bulb in, and you’re done. Organically grown, certified NL-BIO-01.
