Detail
Yellow isn’t the most understated colour in the garden, and the Tulipa Novi Sun makes no secret of it. Large, cup-shaped flowers in a rich, sunny golden yellow, borne on long and remarkably sturdy stems. It belongs to the Darwin hybrids, a group of tulips known for their vigour and reliability, making it at least as practical as it is beautiful. A tulip that makes no attempt to be subtle, and gets it just right – as if it knows it’s allowed to steal the show.
Sunlight that lingers
Whereas the colour of some yellow tulips fades slightly after a few days, the Novi Sun retains its vibrancy well, from the very first day right through to the end of its flowering period. This makes it particularly well-suited to large, eye-catching clusters in the border, where an even, radiant colour has the greatest impact and the display never looks weathered, even after a few weeks of flowering.
Sturdy in wind and rain
The Novi Sun’s long, sturdy stems are well-suited to withstanding spring showers and wind, ensuring that the large flowers remain upright even when the weather turns foul. This makes it a favourite for large-scale planting, but equally suitable for a striking group in an ordinary border, where it won’t be easily fazed by a fierce spring storm.
Planting for a radiant effect
Plant the organic tulip bulbs in the autumn at a depth of around 15 cm, in a sunny to lightly shaded spot with rich, well-drained soil. For the best effect, plant the Novi Sun in a large, dense clump; the contrast with darker-coloured flowers or fresh green foliage makes the yellow shine even brighter. At Natural Bulbs, every bulb is grown to the same standard: certified organic, without chemical pesticides, from bulb to full bloom. This means you not only get a radiant border, but also the assurance that it has been created in a responsible way.
