Snowdrops (Galanthus Polar Bear) - ORG

There is little as heartening as the Galanthus ‘Polar Bear’, one of the first to break through the frozen ground. Whilst the garden is still dormant, these snowdrops are already there — white, fresh and full of life. The ‘Polar Bear’ is a larger, more robust variety than the most common snowdrops, with sturdy stems and flowers that stand out clearly, even from a distance.

Position and care

Galanthus ‘Polar Bear’ thrives best in a semi-shaded spot with moist, humus-rich soil — such as at the foot of a tree, along a hedge or in a naturalised border. Plant the bulbs in autumn at a depth of around 8–10 cm. Allow the foliage to die back naturally after flowering; this allows the bulb to store energy for the following year. Do not mow or cut back the foliage until it has turned yellow.

Naturalisation and biodiversity

Once planted, Galanthus Polar Bear spreads naturally — both via seed and through bulbils. After a few years, you’ll have a dense, natural clump that becomes more beautiful every spring. For early bees and bumblebees, this is one of the first food sources of the season, making planting snowdrops a small act of caring for nature in your local area.

Year after year

The Galanthus Polar Bear is fully hardy and requires virtually no maintenance. It is also particularly robust, as it is organically grown. No pesticides or herbicides – just pure power from nature.
