Detail
The New Baby daffodil proves that spectacular spring displays don’t always have to come from large flowers. This compact, organic daffodil remains modest in size at 20 to 30 centimetres, but surprises with several creamy-yellow blooms per stem and a lovely, delicate fragrance. What’s more, New Baby only flowers when many other daffodils have already finished flowering, allowing you to enjoy colour in your garden for longer.
The youngest daffodil in an old family
Despite its name, New Baby is not a young bulb that still has to prove itself, but the name isn’t just a random choice either. It refers to its relatively recent origin. Compared to centuries-old classics, this daffodil is a newcomer, created from a cross with the wild Narcissus jonquilla. From this wild ancestor, it has inherited its compact growth habit, multiple flowers per stem and the pleasant fragrance for which jonquilla daffodils are so beloved. In this way, New Baby combines the best of both worlds: a fresh, modern look with the reliability of a true spring classic.
Late-flowering, small and fragrant
Whilst many daffodils reach their peak as early as March, ‘New Baby’ patiently bides its time. It is not until April or even May that the creamy-yellow flowers open, allowing this organic daffodil to naturally extend the flowering season of your spring garden. The flowers give off a subtle, fresh fragrance that really comes into its own along a garden path, on a patio or close to the front door. The open flowers also attract wild bees, bumblebees and other pollinators that are still searching for nectar later in the spring.
Compact and versatile
Thanks to its compact size of 20–30 cm, New Baby feels at home anywhere. Plant the organic daffodil bulbs in the autumn in a sunny to lightly shaded spot in well-drained soil. They look stunning at the front of a border, in a rockery, in a pot or amongst the lawn. The bulbs are 100% organically grown, with care taken to nurture the soil, the plants and biodiversity. This means you’re bringing home a daffodil that not only flowers for a long time, but also contributes to a vibrant and natural spring garden year after year.
