Detail
Persicaria amplexicaulis, or knotweed, is a hardy perennial that really adds a lot to the border later in the season. Starting in summer, long, narrow flower spikes emerge from a dense clump of fresh green foliage. They grow on slender stems and sway gently in the breeze, giving the plant an airy appearance despite its height. With a final height of about 100 to 120 centimeters, Persicaria fits nicely in the middle or at the back of a border.
Combine it, for example, with Rudbeckia, Achillea, Verbena, ornamental grasses, or fall anemones. This creates a loose planting scheme that retains plenty of color and texture even in late summer and fall.
A hardy plant that likes to retain some moisture
Persicaria amplexicaulis grows in both full sun and partial shade. It prefers humus-rich soil that retains sufficient moisture. Once well-established, the plant forms an increasingly full clump each year. It’s also important to note that this graceful Persicaria is not the same as the invasive Japanese knotweed. Persicaria amplexicaulis grows in clumps and is specifically used as a perennial border plant.
The plant is supplied as a young, well-rooted specimen in a compact P9 pot. Water it thoroughly after planting so the roots can establish themselves properly.
A great choice for anyone who wants to keep their border vibrant not only in spring and summer, but also later in the year.
