Detail
You may be familiar with goji berries from your breakfast bowl or as a dried snack, but did you know that you can actually grow them yourself? Little Goji (Lycium barbarum) proves that you don’t need a large vegetable garden to do so. This compact variety stays manageable and therefore fits just as easily into a smaller garden as it does in a spacious border. During the growing season, delicate purple flowers appear, followed by the striking orange-red berries for which the plant is so well known. The nice thing is that you’ll often get curious questions even before the first berry is ripe: ‘Is that really a goji berry?’
From Asia to your back garden
The goji berry has been cultivated for centuries in parts of Asia and has also taken Europe by storm in recent years. Not just because of the berries, but also because it’s a surprisingly easy plant to grow. Ripe goji berries have a fresh, slightly sweet flavour and are delicious eaten fresh. Of course, you can also dry them or add them to yoghurt, muesli or a smoothie. A fun fact: fresh goji berries taste very different from the dried variety you find in shops. Many people are genuinely surprised by this the first time they try them.
A plant that’s good to go straight away
We supply Little Goji in a P15 pot. This means you’re not bringing home a tiny seedling, but a beautifully developed shrub that deserves a place in your garden right away. You can immediately see that the plant is already well-branched and can continue to grow at its own pace. That makes it slightly more expensive than smaller pot sizes, but in return you get a stronger start. This goji berry is, of course, grown entirely organically, so it fits perfectly into a natural garden.
One you’ll keep stopping to admire
Some plants you almost forget about once you’ve planted them. Little Goji isn’t one of them. First, the flowers catch your eye, then the colourful berries appear, and before you know it, you’re tasting one every now and then whilst strolling through the garden. That’s perhaps what makes this organic fruit shrub so lovely: it truly lives in tune with the seasons and keeps surprising you time and time again.
