Detail
Don’t be fooled by its size. The Sundisc daffodil may be small, but it effortlessly catches the eye. The flower is less than five centimetres across, round and flat like a saucer, in a radiant yellow that immediately reminds you of the sun – hence its name. Whilst many other daffodils have already passed their prime, Sundisc continues to bloom cheerfully, still offering nectar to wild bees, bumblebees and other pollinators at a time when the supply is slowly diminishing.
The name Sundisc/span>
The corona of this organic daffodil is not trumpet-shaped, as with most varieties, but flat and round, almost like a coin. That’s where it gets its name from: Sundisc. It gives the flower a slightly different, more playful look than the classic yellow daffodil, making it a perfect fit amongst perennials, in a rockery or at the front of a border. Precisely because the flowers are so unassuming, it’s all the more delightful when you come across them unexpectedly. It’s the sort of discovery that makes you pause and take a second look every time.
A scent that doesn’t match its size/span>
What Sundisc lacks in size, it makes up for in fragrance. For such a small flower, it smells surprisingly strong – sweet and fresh at the same time. Thanks to the multiple flowers per stem, a single bulb is enough to produce a cheerful and fragrant display. Place a few stems in a small vase and you’ll smell it throughout the room, truly bringing spring into your home.
A late-flowering variety with a long stamina/span>
While most daffodils have finished flowering by March, Sundisc keeps going for longer and sometimes flowers well into May. Plant the organic daffodil bulbs in the autumn in a sunny to lightly shaded spot in well-drained soil. Sundisc thrives in pots, rockeries, borders and other spots where larger daffodils can sometimes take up too much space. Under the right conditions, the bulbs naturalise easily and return every spring. These 100% organically grown flower bulbs provide a cheerful splash of yellow year after year and help to create a garden that fosters biodiversity.
