Allium Sphaerocephalon is the smallest of the ornamental onions, but it stands out all the more in the garden. The compact, egg-shaped flower bulbs change colour from green to deep purple-red — a colour gradient that is particularly beautiful in June and July, especially when combined with lighter-coloured perennials or ornamental grasses. Its slender stem sways gently in the breeze, giving it a playful and lively character.
Position and combinations
Plant Allium Sphaerocephalon in the autumn, from September to November, at a depth of around 8 cm. It thrives best in full sun and well-drained soil. Plant it preferably in groups of at least 10–15 bulbs for a striking effect. It combines beautifully with Salvia, Stipa (ornamental grass), Echinacea or other summer perennials.
Organically grown
Our Allium Sphaerocephalon is organically grown and certified with the NL-BIO-01 label. Grown without artificial fertilisers or pesticides — good for the soil, good for the bees and good for your garden.
