Natural Bulbs
The name Allium Magic sounds like a promise — and it delivers. This new ornamental onion is a cross between Allium atropurpureum and Allium schubertii: two parent plants, each with its own distinctive characteristics. The result is a flower that combines the deep colour of one with the explosive, fan-shaped form of the other. Large, deep purple and full of life.
The science behind the magic
Allium Schubertii is known for its unusual flower heads, where the florets sit on stems of varying lengths — giving the head a sort of fireworks effect. Allium Atropurpureum contributes the deep, dark colour. ‘Magic’ combines the two: a large, fan-shaped flower with a rich purple-red colour that immediately catches the eye in the border. A new variety that hasn’t yet been discovered by everyone — and that makes it all the more interesting.
For bees and for you
The nectar of Allium ‘Magic’ is easily accessible to bees, butterflies and other pollinators. Plant the bulbs in September to October in a sunny spot with well-drained soil, at a depth of around 15 cm. After flowering, they can simply be left in the ground — they are hardy and will return naturally the following year. Organically grown, certified NL-BIO-01, cultivated with care for the soil and biodiversity.
