Detail
Whilst most daffodils wait patiently for spring, Narcis Rijnveld’s Early Sensation is an exception. This organic trumpet daffodil is one of the earliest-flowering varieties available and, in mild winters, sometimes makes an appearance as early as January. Amidst bare branches, hoarfrost and the last remnants of snow, a bright yellow flower suddenly appears – one of the first real signs that spring is on its way.
The fastest in its class
Rijnveld’s Early Sensation is known as the earliest-flowering trumpet daffodil, making it a special addition to any spring garden. Whilst many other daffodils only start to flower in March, this variety can appear weeks earlier. The large, star-shaped petals and the broad, slightly wavy trumpet give it a classic appearance that is instantly recognisable. Precisely because it flowers so early, this organic daffodil combines beautifully with snowdrops, winter aconites and the first crocuses, bringing the garden slowly to life even in the middle of winter.
Naturally hardy
Early flowering also means that a flower must be able to withstand whatever the winter weather has in store. Rijnveld’s Early Sensation is not easily put off. Wind, rain or a late night frost barely affect it, and thanks to its sturdy stems, the flowers remain standing tall. This makes this daffodil not only one of the first, but also one of the most reliable spring-flowering varieties. The open flowers are also a welcome source of food for wild bees, bumblebees and other pollinators that start to appear again on the first mild days.
Organically grown and more abundant every year
Plant the organic daffodil bulbs in the autumn in a sunny to lightly shaded spot in well-drained soil. Once established, Rijnveld’s Early Sensation naturalises beautifully and forms larger clumps each spring with an ever-increasing number of flowers. The bulbs are 100% organically grown, with care taken to nurture the soil, the plants and biodiversity. This means you can enjoy, year after year, a daffodil that doesn’t just wait for spring, but is actually the first to herald its arrival.
