Detail
A shady border does not have to be dark or short on flowers. With the 3 Seasons of Flowers – Shade – Organic, the first flowers appear at the end of winter and the display continues well into autumn.
The pack combines 17 organic perennial plants with 250 organic flower bulbs. Hellebores and crocuses start the season, followed by daffodils, Puschkinia, Brunnera, Vinca and Spanish bluebells. Geranium and Aquilegia follow later in spring, while Persicaria and two Japanese anemones carry the border through summer and autumn.
This creates a shaded border that changes in color, height, and character over the course of three seasons.

Spring starts before the trees come into leaf
This planting combination works particularly well beneath deciduous trees and shrubs.
In February and March plenty of spring light still reaches the ground. Hellebores, crocuses, Tête-à-Tête daffodils and Puschkinia take advantage of that early light.
Brunnera produces clouds of small blue flowers from April, while Vinca minor creates a low evergreen carpet. Blue and white Spanish bluebells then add height and colour in late spring.
Ground cover creates the green foundation
Foliage is particularly important in a shady border.
Brunnera produces large, heart-shaped leaves. Vinca minor spreads into a low evergreen carpet, while Geranium ‘Bevan’s Variety’ gradually forms a broad mat of aromatic foliage.
The spring bulbs can emerge between these perennial plants year after year.
From spring blues to summer pinks
The character of the border changes again from May onwards.
Aquilegia alpina introduces elegant purple-blue flowers. Geranium ‘Bevan’s Variety’ adds deeper purplish-pink tones.
Later, Persicaria amplexicaulis rises above the lower planting with long red to pink-red flower spikes, adding movement and height from summer onwards.
Japanese anemones finish the season
Late summer brings the final part of the flowering season.
Anemone ‘Splendens’ produces deep pink flowers, while ‘Honorine Jobert’ adds large white blooms with warm yellow centres.
Together they keep the shady border feeling light and colourful when many other garden plants have already finished flowering.
What kind of shade is this pack designed for?
The 3 Seasons of Flowers – Shade – Organic is designed for shade with filtered light or light, open shade.
Good locations include:
- beneath deciduous trees and large shrubs;
- alongside a hedge;
- a north- or east-facing border;
- areas receiving morning or evening sun;
- the edge of a lightly wooded area.
Very deep, permanently dark shade is less suitable. Crocuses, Aquilegia, Persicaria and Japanese anemones all benefit from some additional light.
Choose a humus-rich soil that retains moisture while still allowing excess water to drain away.
Position the perennial plants first, then distribute the 250 bulbs naturally between them. Beneath deciduous trees, the spring bulbs receive plenty of light before the canopy closes.
The complete pack is delivered in one shipment, so you can plant the entire border at once.
For the love of nature.
