Detail
There are plants that take up all the space and plants that prove that’s not necessary at all. The organic Little Miss Figgy fig tree (Ficus carica) clearly belongs to the latter category. This compact fig tree remains considerably smaller than many other fig varieties, but makes no concessions whatsoever when it comes to the harvest. That’s precisely what makes it so popular. Whether you have a city garden, a sunny terrace or a cosy corner in the back garden: Little Miss Figgy shows that you don’t need a three-metre-tall tree to pick your own figs. This cultivar has been specially selected for its compact growth and remarkably abundant fruit production.
A little holiday in your own garden
The large, deeply lobed leaves immediately give this fig tree a Mediterranean feel. Even when there are no fruits on it yet, it quickly evokes memories of sunny squares in southern Europe. And as soon as the dark purple figs appear, it becomes very hard not to pop round to take a look every now and then. Ripe figs are delicious eaten fresh, but they’re also fantastic on a cheese platter, in a salad or made into homemade jam. Did you know that figs aren’t technically proper fruits, but a unique inflorescence in which the flowers are hidden inside? That makes the fig, botanically speaking, one of the most remarkable types of fruit you can grow.
A robust plant with a head start
We supply this organic Little Miss Figgy in a P15 pot. This means you’ll receive a beautifully developed plant that already has a sturdy base. This gives your fig tree a great start straight away, and you’ll often enjoy a full plant sooner than with smaller pot sizes. This also explains the price difference. As you’d expect from Natural Bulbs, this fig tree has also been grown entirely organically and fits perfectly into a garden where biodiversity and natural gardening take centre stage.
The sort of plant you look forward to every year
Little Miss Figgy isn’t the type to cry out for attention. She grows quietly, does her own thing and then surprises you with a harvest you wouldn’t really have expected from such a compact plant. Perhaps that’s her greatest charm. It’s a fig tree that becomes more beautiful as the years go by, and one you find yourself looking at with fresh curiosity every season. Because let’s be honest: a home-grown, sun-ripened fig does taste just that little bit better than one from the supermarket.
